Despite her petite frame, Saskatonian Alexandra Beck commands the stage with her big soulful voice, ability to sing whistle tones, & strong energy. Alexandra has often been described to have similarities to the sounds of Amy Winehouse, Beyonce, and Janice Joplin.
Alexandra is proud of her vocal solo at Lincoln Centre in New York City in March 2018 under the direction of Pitch Perfect’s Deke Sharon, and her set at the iconic “Bitter End” (Joni Mitchell, Etta James, Lady Gaga) in New York City in May 2019.
It wasn’t until Alexandra started living in Vancouver for university in 2014 that she discovered her own ability to write a catchy hook. At this time she actively started to pursue songwriting courses under the direction of Tariq Hussain(EMI records) while attending the University of British Columbia. In her last season in Vancouver Alexandra attended Nimbus School of Recording & Media studying songwriting & artist development under the direction of Dave Genn(54-40). At the time Alexandra performed many gigs and open mics at venues all over Vancouver’s Lower Mainland. While at Nimbus Alexandra also recorded & released a single- Non Lo So including Nik Pesut(Carly Rae Jepsen) on the drums.
Now back in Saskatoon Alexandra is currently studying voice via Skype, and being mentored by her producer and cowrite Dawn Elder(Cheb Khaled, Quincy Jones, Sting). Dawn and Alexandra plan to record and release 2-3 singles this year that they have been working on leading up to an eventual album release next year. Lots to look forward to this year!
