Quartet – sometimes quintet – from Quebec City led by two figureheads of the singular Pantoum, Beat Sexü is a happy mix of afro-disco-classical-pop-cumbia-rock-psych music. Its beat (a generally dancing rhythm), accompanied by inclusive and sexü (cool and naïve abbreviation for “sexual”) lyrics, makes it a nice soundtrack for friendly people… that, it is said, can easily be danced to.
Beat Sexü was created in a hurry in 2014 as the band’s first show was announced before the band itself had even taken shape. A few months later, in May 2014, their first EP Première fois was released, followed by Québec Open House QC, a 2015 collaborative tribute to Quebec city’s local scene.
These two releases, topped with the many spicy shows that they performed, made the quartet a real battering ram for the local indie scene of Quebec city. Among others, they performed at the Francofolies de Montréal, the Festival d’été de Québec, the Festif de Baie-
Saint-Paul, the Coup de Coeur francophone, at Acadie Rock, at the Festival OFF de Québec, the Agrirock, at the Festival Artéfact… and the list goes on!
Beat Sexü consists of Jean-Etienne Collin Marcoux (drums, vocals), Jean-Michel Letendre-Veilleux (guitar), Odile Marmet-Rochefort (keys, synths, vocals) and Martin Teasdale-Blais
