SANDY POWLIK is a Vancouver-based singer-songwriter who has been turning heads for years. From being laughed at by her sisters for singing church hymns while on the toilet at age 3 to fronting a 17-piece big band and co-founding and being sole lyricist for original folk rock group, Sonnenblume, she has since staged her own show, LOLA PARKS, for over a decade. A nationally-recognized multi-award winner, including “Most Outstanding Musician – Vocal Jazz” and “Female Songwriter of the Year,” her 2011 release (Here) garnered three Vancouver Island Music Awards nominations and continues to receive international and playlist attention. Her music is best described as boho chic soul folk carried by dangerous lyrics, hypnotic grooves and a seductive voice.

LOLA is a female Indigenous Canadian musical artist compelled to create, cultivate and share her art. Her mission is to give and be a voice: cultural and social brokerage through music and words. A 12th generation Canadian of Montagnais, Ukrainian, French and British ancestry, her heritage deeply influences her songwriting and music.

Over the past 20+ years, she has created a fiercely independent musical history that includes numerous studio session recordings, collaborations and performing around the world. She has led several Western Canada tours and had TV/film/ radio placements including on TV’s “Higher Ground”, independent film “The Orchard” (Mutant Films) and CBC radio’s new “Early Edition” theme song. She is about to release her 5th studio album, No Apologies, off which single “Hey Hey” has already aired on multiple CBC programs, at the opening ceremonies of BC Culture Days 2019 and on APTN in promotion of Talking Stick Festival 2020.

Rotating band members include: Chris Van Sickle (Jesse Roper, Toni Childs), Adam Dobres (Ruth Moody, Toni Childs), Oliver Swain (Oliver Swain), MJ Dandeneau (Good Lovelies, Lynne Hanson, Celeigh Cardinal), Michel Bruyere (Buffy Sainte-Marie), Roy Vizer (Jon & Roy), Niko Friesen (Marcy Playground, Jane Siberry, Hannah Georgas), Michael Simpsonelli (Ryan Guldemond, Brasstronaut).
